THE LOIRE VALLEY
Enjoy scenic routes, remarkable chateaux, and authentic regional cuisine!
Located in the southern Touraine, Maison des Chouettes is perfectly positioned in the Loire Valley, from where you can discover the enchanting chateaux that line the river Loire. Many have been restored to their former regal glory like chateau d'Amboise, Chenonceau, Villandry and Azay-le-Ferron. Most are within an hours drive of the gite; the furthest being chateau de Chambord, which is an easy 1 hour 30 minutes drive.
Nearby there are some excellent restaurants. The Touraine is famous for its local specialties, like goat's cheese from Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine, the delicious potted pork called Rillettes, Wild Boar, and the little black chicken, La Geline. And not forgetting alongside its Vouvray, Chinon and Bourgueil wines, Touraine boasts nine appellations d'origine controllee (AOC), including Sasnieres and Montlouis.
